My name is Nicole Angemi and I am a married, 40 year old “dura mater” of 3 girls. My days consist of playing with my kids, homeschooling, going on dates with my husband, and occasionally dissecting humans on the side.
I have a BS in cytotechnology from Thomas Jefferson University and an MS from Drexel University. I am a board certified cytotechnologist and pathologists’ assistant through the ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathology). I have over 19 years experience in the laboratory including microbiology, cytology, surgical pathology and autopsy.
6 years ago I started bringing my work experience to Instagram. I thought everything I was seeing and learning in the pathology lab was so cool and decided to share it with everyone!
I am curator of my main Instagram account @mrs_angemi which focuses on pathology. It is based around the 5 manners of death: natural, accident, suicide, homicide, and undetermined. I have over 4500 posts showing death, near death, accidents, and preventable and non-preventable diseases. I post theses types of images with information to educate everyone, not just those in the field of medicine.
More recently I started another Instagram account for fun called @beforelifeafterdeath. This account is a different, lighter compliment to my main account which focuses on ancestry and genetics.
The name “dura mater” comes from one of my favorite terms I learned in gross anatomy. The dura matter is a thick, fibrous blanket of tissue in the skull that protects the brain. Dura mater is latin for tough mother. The dura mater protects the brain and moms protect their babies. It is the perfect anatomical term to describe me!
